Buying Genesis Turns Blah to Stunning

The Genesis framework by StudioPress brings form to WordPress. Why buy Genesis when there are thousands of free WordPress themes? Don’t any of these free themes do what Genesis does?

I asked these question once upon a time, until…

I bought a StudioPress theme.

StudioPress themes opened my eyes to building websites in WordPress.

I’ve never looked back.  If you think using a free theme is a good idea, read this article about the hazard of using some free themes.

Take a look around … at this site I mean. Recognize it?

It’s the Magazine child theme on the Genesis Framework. I speak highly of Genesis; I’m a user — a convert really. So much so, I wrote an in-depth 1,800 word Genesis review.

After all, I once was a “free theme” or “open source” user, but came to be frustrated with limitation after limitation.

It wasn’t until I became a StudioPress customer that my websites came into being. And I’m talking about many websites — some of which are large and important to my business.

In fact, my passion for building websites and WordPress started after building a website for my offline business. I began with another theme – that will remain unnamed – that failed to make an impact to my bottom line. Despite decent traffic, the website didn’t do much for me.

Buying StudioPress Themes was Good for My Bottom Line

Enterprise Child Theme by StudioPressWhen StudioPress released Enterprise child theme, I knew it was perfect for my business. I didn’t have to buy Genesis Theme and Enterprise because I had purchased an All-Theme package and get all future releases from a 1-time payment.  My hunch proved correct. My offline business took off.

Maybe Enterprise theme isn’t for you. There are a diverse array of themes by StudioPress. Choose from well over 30 child themes to create the perfect look and feel.

What’s this Talk About Parent and Child Themes?

The Genesis theme framework uses a parent and child theme configuration. Genesis is the “parent” framework; you install child themes to control the design of your website. You can easily switch out your child themes to change the look and feel of your site. My article “How to Install Parent and Child Themes in WordPress” explains this framework in detail.

When you buy Genesis Theme, what does it do for you?

In addition to many features and benefits (plus some dislikes) I set out in my Genesis review, you get top-notch design. This is design that converts website visitors to customers… at least it does for me. I couldn’t ask for anything more, yet more is given.

I’d be neglectful if I didn’t at least mention the search engine optimization advantages of the Genesis Framework. There’s no website traffic like free traffic. But, there is no free lunch. You must build your website so it ranks in the search engines. Genesis has the SEO tools that enable any user to optimize a WordPress website quickly and easily. No coding knowledge needed.

Some SEO Specifics?

Some of the SEO configuration options you have in StudioPress include:

  • Set a meta title and meta description for your website
  • Append your website title to all inner pages
  • Easily set the meta data for every post and page. The following screenshot is the SEO Options and Settings form available in every “add page” and “add post” panel:

Eliminate the duplicate content problem in WordPress:

You can noindex, nofollow, and/or noarchive the home page and individual pages and posts.

Archive pages aren’t neglected, as they can be the bane of duplicate content. You have
noindex and/or noarchive options for category pages, tag archive pages, author archive pages, date archive pages, and/or search archive pages.

SEO doesn’t get easier than this.

Permission Granted

Many paid theme vendors restrict a theme’s use to one or a few websites. Not when you buy Genesis from StudioPress. Their license couldn’t be simpler. Use their themes on as many websites as you like, including client websites if you’re into building websites for a living.

You could say a StudioPress Pro Plus All Theme Package is a ready-made website building business opportunity. For some people it is. For other people like me, it’s a tool for building my business.

What If You’ve Never Built a Website?

StudioPress is for you because they offer help, and plenty of it.

You kick off your website building journey with tutorials. StudioPress tutorials are plentiful, in video, and written out (for those of you who learn by reading rather than watching).

As you roll up your sleeves and get under the hood building your first site, you can go for help where many have gone before. This is the hyper-active StudioPress support forum. And no, you aren’t solely dependent on other customers. There are several senior moderators, hand-picked by StudioPress, who post answers to questions. Generally answers are posted in under 24 hours.

Some Cool Features When You Purchase Genesis Theme

1. 6 Layouts

Sometimes a website simply can’t have the same layout on every page. That’s why StudioPress gives you 6 layouts to choose from for any page or post. Check them out:

2. Custom Sidebars

StudioPress offers a free plugin called “Simple Sidebars” which makes it ridiculously easy to create more sidebars which you can customize with widgets. Read my Genesis Simple Sidebars tutorial to see how this great tool works.

3. Featured Posts and Pages

Online newspapers must present a great deal of information front and center. Visit the home page of almost any online newspaper and you’ll see lists of titles with excerpts linking to the full article. This is called Featured Posts, and Genesis delivers this in spades.

You can place Featured Posts and Pages in many places on a StudioPress theme home page and sidebars. Turn your website into a vast source of information readily available to your readers. Read my Genesis Featured Posts article and tutorial here to learn more.

StudioPress’ Premium Services

If you’re too busy to begin the website building journey, you can hire StudioPress to build your website for you. They offer 3 levels of service, ranging in price from $199.95 to $499.95. Obtain quotes for a custom-built website (which may very well be built using a theme or template), and you’ll see that these premium “website set-up” prices are a good deal for a website. I know first-hand because before I discovered WordPress, I paid $3,000 for a website.

If you need some advanced customization, StudioPress provides a list of approved StudioPress theme designers who can perform custom work for you.

Genesis is defined as “the origin or coming into being of something.”

Maybe you think the name “Genesis” is presumptuous. After all, “Genesis” is used in context of origins and creation. But, that’s why the Genesis framework is so aptly named. Genesis brings websites into being.
