One of StudioPress’ signature WordPress theme features is the ability to place on your home page featured posts’ and featured pages’ excerpts creating a typical magazine style home page. With the Genesis Framework, StudioPress takes the home page customization to an entirely new level.
What Are the Featured Posts and Featured Pages Features?
It’s easiest to illustrate with an image. The following is a screenshot of the StudioPress Streamline Theme Demo home page.
What are StudioPress Featured Posts/Pages?
They are snippets of posts you place in a list by category on your home page (or sidebar which displays throughout your site). The Featured Posts/Pages feature enables you to feature numerous posts on your home page.
Every section on the home page in many of StudioPress themes are widgetized. This means you can place any content you like. As you can see in the above screenshot, the featured posts/pages function pulls an image form the actual post.
If you prefer to put a full-length article on the home page, that too is no problem. You simply write it in a “Text” widget.
I don’t always use the Featured Posts/Pages feature on my websites. It depends on the purpose of my home page.
How to Place Featured Posts’/Pages’ Sections to Your Home Page?
Adding a Featured Posts or Featured Pages section to your home page is very easy. Simply follow the steps in the following series of screenshots:
Just so you know, the StudioPress theme above is Enterprise.
Then you simply configure your Featured Posts/Pages in the widget. Here’s a screenshot of the Featured Posts widget:
As you can see, there are many configuration options for the Featured Posts/Pages widget.
If you have an image in your post, you can choose to pull that image and choose how it displays – whether a slideshow or thumbnail, or mid-size.
At the end of the day, what appears to be a simple feature with the Genesis Theme is very powerful. You can create stunning and informative home pages simply by using this Widget – including setting out one or more slideshows and lists of article titles.
If you prefer to have a contained article on your home page with or without a slideshow and featured posts, this too is possible. You simply format your text in a “Text Widget” and place it anywhere on the home page you wish.
Most Genesis Child Themes have a static home page option where you can use the Featured Posts Widget. One exception is the Prose Theme – which only creates blog-format websites.
Just so you know, the screenshot above of the home page for this website does NOT use a slideshow feature. I simply use a combination of Featured Posts and a single contained article.
It’s not hard to see why the Genesis Framework by StudioPress is so popular these days.
