Best E-Commerce Website Templates & Themes – a Big Chart

Thanks to some enterprising website template designers, it’s super easy to open up an online store – also known as an e-commerce website.

I’m an absolute junkie for the newest website templates – whether in WordPress or stand-alone platforms. I’m constantly on the lookout testing and reviewing the latest and the best e-commerce website templates available.

This website is dedicated to informing you about the best e-commerce website templates. This page gets right down to business with setting out what are my favorite e-commerce templates to use for any store.

E-commerce websites have unique needs – namely a shopping cart and secure credit card processing. You can certainly use WordPress, Joomla, and all of the platforms in the Website Builders Chart above to build an e-commerce website (I set out some WordPress themes designed for e-commerce below).

MindBodyOnline is an e-commerce solution integrated with its very popular scheduling software designed for businesses that schedule clients. Note, MindBodyOnline is NOT a website building platform.

WordPress E-Commerce Themes:

WordPress E-Commerce Template Purpose My Comments
WooCommerce: WooThemes develops many e-commerce WordPress themes.  In fact, it’s a focus of their business model.
  • If you like using WordPress and don’t mind integrating shopping cart functionality, then a WordPress e-commerce theme may be for you.
  • I strongly recommend checking out WooCommerce.  It’s a powerful WordPress e-commerce solution.
  • Advantages include no ongoing cost and you can easily integrate a blog so that you can load your site with content.
  • Disadvantages include having to integrate shopping cart functionality and you may need to upgrade your hosting to an SSL level.
StudioPress:StudioPress themes integrate with the WooCommerce plugin.  Therefore you can turn any StudioPress theme into an e-commerce website (FYI: I love StudioPress themes and this integration with WooCommerce is an excellent development).

Single Product WordPress E-Commerce Themes

MyProduct Theme by ElegantThemes All of these listed themes are ideal for a single product website. The themes are stylish and since they operate on WordPress, the set up is easy and there is no ongoing cost.
  • Advantages include low cost (no ongoing cost) and very easy to set up. You can also incorporate a blog so you can have a great deal of content (for SEO and conversion).
  • Disadvantages include having to integrate shopping cart functionality and perhaps having to upgrade your hosting to an SSL certificate level.

4. Digital Product E-Store WordPress Theme

WordPress Digital Product E-Store Theme
Purpose My Comments
eBook by Templatic If you dislike the usual sales pages selling digital products, then perhaps a more “product-oriented” layout suits you for your digital product. This theme is just that – designed for selling a single digital product.
  • Advantages include no ongoing costs and it’s easy to add plenty of content.
  • Disadvantages include the limited layout flexibility, shopping cart integration (not too difficult for digital products).

Here’s the deal. The best e-commerce templates in my view are Shopify and Volusion. But with those platforms, you’re committed to a monthly expense. As far as I’m concerned, when launching an e-commerce business, it’s best to keep overhead to a minimum and scale up when revenues grow. Yes, I know Shopify and Volusion are not that expensive, but if funds are low, start with a WordPress e-commerce template.

If you’re well-funded and are planning a full-blown online store, definitely go with Shopify or Volusion.

With respect to a digital product website, I really like the eBook theme by Templatic. It has a simple, yet modern style to it – keeping up-to-date with the latest business-formatted templates.
