UPDATED March 9, 2012, 2012

UPDATE NOTICE:  The Premise for WordPress plugin is completely updated with many new features.  See below for the Premise 2.0 feature set.

Premise for WordPress Creates WordPress Landing Page Templates

Premise Plugin WordPress Landing Page TemplatesIt’s possible to create WordPress landing page templates without buying landing page templates.  I’ve done it a few times.  It’s a hassle; that’s why I decided to buy the Premise for WordPress plugin after considerable WordPress landing page template research.

Since buying Premise, I’ve created 10 landing pages on this site alone (click here to see a sample).

Premise for WordPress will be a good investment for me

I suspect the amount of new business I generate on this blog and my offline business websites will be substantial using the Premise landing page plugin.  Why?  Because, I can create great looking landing pages quickly that are a PART of my blogs and websites.

UPDATE JULY 18, 2011

I’ve had about 10 Premise Landing pages published on this site for about 10 days.  The result: Tripled the subscribership rate for my e-newsletter.  Premise works.

Premise for WordPress in a nutshell

Premise for WordPress makes building effective WordPress landing page templates easy.  Premise …

  • is easy to use,
  • is loaded with features including graphics,
  • includes 7 landing page templates all of which can be fully customized;
  • includes Copywriting templates, tips, and tutorials.

This Premise review sets out the features, benefits, and other pertinent information about Premise for building customized WordPress landing page templates.

My Whirlwind Premise Video Tour

Why use a plugin?  Why not get a landing page theme?

I wanted a landing page template solution that I could use on an installed existing theme rather than creating a new site on a separate domain.  The Premise plugin does both; I like the flexibility.

In my experience, large sites rank well if well-optimized.  This site and my several main offline business sites have a lot of content.  The results being my posts rank well in the search engines.

This means I wanted my landing pages to be a part of my sites (i.e. sub-directory), rather than on a different domain.  The best solution for this is using a plugin rather than a new theme.

If you’re looking to build a separate site that is only a landing page, Premise can do this as well.  You install a theme of your choice, then install the Premise plugin.  Once your landing page is created, in your WordPress dashboard go to Settings, Reading, and select your Premise landing page as the front page.

Premise Landing Page Templates Features

1.  It’s a wordPress plugin

This is important because you can create landing pages within a website.  You can use your existing theme and via the plugin aspect create separate landing pages.  Moreover, your home page need not be the landing page (but can be).

2.  7 landing page templates

You can choose from:

  1. Sales Page (click to view Sales Page template sample)
  2. Content landing page (click to view sample)
  3. Pricing page with a built-in pricing table (click to view sample)
  4. Opt in page for lead generation – note you can add opt in boxes on other templates – the opt in page offers columns for opt in box placement (click to view sample)
  5. Video landing page (click to view sample)
  6. Tab scroller page where you (click to view sample)
  7. Thank you page template (click to view sample).

3.  Easily import your header

You can use your website’s header or import a custom header.  In fact, you can use different headers on different landing pages.

4.  Customize the templates

You aren’t stuck with one style.  You can create unlimited styles for your templates.  The following is the style menu which you can use to create an unlimited number of landing page templates.

Premise Plugin Style Menu

5.  Graphics included

In the page editing panel, you can click the “insert graphics” icon which then generates a graphics selector.  You have over 1,000 graphics to choose from.  The following shows you what I’m talking about:

6.  Custom button creation

The sky is the limit creating buttons.  You can style it pretty much any way you like.  Here’s part of the custom button design screen (there’s much more to it – I just show a snippet):

7.  Easy autoresponder integration

In fact, Premise for WordPress plugin pulls your autoresponder list and form data so you can choose from inside the Premise editor which opt in form you want to use.  Check it out:

8.  Copywriting assistance

Within Premise is a huge copywriting tutorial manual you can use.  PLUS, you can auto-populate copywriting templates according to the landing page template you choose.  I’ve used this tool plenty so far.  It’s generic copywriting, but it steps you through formatting a particular landing page.

9.  SEO Meta-Data fields

SEO meta data fields are included so you can quickly create <title>, <meta name=”description”>, and <meta name=”keywords”> tags for your pages.  You can also choose to noindex, noarchive, and nofollow to any landing page you create.

10.  Footer customization

You can easily create a custom footer different than the rest of your website.

11.  Easy split testing

You can create duplicates for split testing.  There’s also the option to insert Visual Website Optimizer and Google Website Optimizer account info for split testing.

UPDATE Feb 27, 2012 – New Premise Features:

1.  Create membership websites

The Premise plugin now makes it easy to create membership portals within your website.  Because it’s a plugin, you can build the membership portal IN your website instead of on a separate WordPress installation.

Premise includes all the technology you need to create paid or free membership websites.  Recurring payments are taken care of plus:

  • You can drip feed content over time
  • Create private content libraries for members.

Why build a membership website?

Because it’s a phenomenal way to build up a recurring income stream.  All you have to do is create content people are willing to pay for and drip feed it to members over time.  It’s a beautiful business model.

2.  Sell digital products with a built-in payment gateway that integrates with Paypal and Authorize.net

Premise 2.0 for WordPress includes all the payment solutions and integration you need to sell digital products off of your website.

3.  Secure download pages

This is a great feature.  Usually you need to buy additional software to secure digital product download pages from non-purchasers accessing your download pages.  Now Premise includes the ability to create secure download pages.

4.  Integrate premise with a private forum

Premise software integrates with VBulletin forum software so that you can start a private (or public) forum on your website.

Premise Plugin Benefits

  • Create customized landing pages quickly.
  • Build landing pages within your existing theme.  But, you can also make your Premise landing page your home page.
  • Enhance your landing pages with over a 1,000 graphics included in the Premise download.
  • You don’t need to know a single line of code to use Premise – it’s beginner friendly.
  • Improve your copy (hence your conversion rates) using Premise’s copywriting tips, templates, and tutorials.

Premise for WordPress Plugin Support

When you buy the Premise for WordPress plugin, you’ll get an account through which you can submit support tickets.  I’ve made inquiries to Copyblogger before and their support is top-notch and fast.

One other cool support feature is you can record a screencast of your work and submit it to Copyblogger.  I haven’t had the need to do this, but is sure could be useful in communicating questions/issues.

That said, there is not a support forum.  All support is through a ticket process or reading FAQs.  You may prefer this or not.  At least there’s support.

2 Criticisms

I have a support ticket in to Premise on the following issues to see if there are solutions.  However, if there are no solutions (and I spent 2 full days using Premise), then these are my 2 criticisms of Premise:

1.  You can’t switch templates once a landing page is created.  For example, if you create a Sales Page template and then want to switch to a content landing page template, you can’t switch templates within the editor.  You have to create a new template and migrate the content over.

2.  There is no easy way to import your website horizontal nav bars OR create a custom nav bar within the templates.  Take, for example the B2Web Services section of this website which uses Premise.  I wanted to use landing pages to minimize distractions (after all it’s a selling page).  However, B2Web offers multiple services and I would like a menu bar for navigation among my services landing pages.

UPDATE JULY 22/11

Premise provided a detailed response saying they are putting my 2 criticisms to the Premise for WordPress development team.  Currently, there isn’t a solution for my two crticisms.

END OF JULY 22/11 UPDATE

I appreciate the Tab scroller template creates a navigation option, but it doesn’t create separate pages for SEO purposes.  By this I mean the ability to insert SEO meta data for each tabbed page.  In other words, the same meta-data is used for each tabbed section.

Am I glad I decided to buy the Premise for WordPress plugin?

Yes.  I’ve bought many products and ended up not using them.  I don’t get too upset when this happens.  For me it’s a numbers game.  The products I buy and love are usually worth 100 times their value.

Premise is one of those good buys; it’s worth more than I paid and I suspect will pay for itself many times over in the near future by using it on my offline business site and other sites.  At the end of the day, I’m using it extensively because all-in-all it’s the best WordPress landing page template creator I’ve ever used.

Does this Premise review recommend Premise?

If you want the ability to create landing pages within a WordPress website, then yes, I recommend using Premise.

How much does it cost to buy Premise?

2 pricing options:

  • $85 one-time payment.  This price gives you 6 months of access to seminars, copywriting advice, graphics library, updates and support.
  • $165 one-time payment includes.  Lifetime access to everything.  I purchased this package because I wanted lifetime graphics access and support access.

License Granted

You can use Premise on as many domains at the same time as you like, regardless which pricing package you buy.

I’ve purchased dozens, perhaps 100s of products for building websites and promoting web properties.  Those that are great are worth 100s of times the price I paid.  Others are useless and are gathering digital dust somewhere on my computer.

The Premise for WordPress plugin proved to be a good buy.  Like I said above, I suspect Premise will garner me a great deal of business making it an excellent investment.

    Hi,

I have read your review of Premise and OptimizePress.
They were very informative. I like them both.

I am going to start using StudioPress wiith Lifestyle and Prose themes and not use any other themes.

However, if you had to choose between the OptimizePress or Premise, which one would you suggest and what are your reasons why.

    • Jon says:

      Hi James,

      You’ll be pleased with StudioPress.

I like and own licenses to both OptimizePress and Premise.

Premise is great because it’s a plugin so you can build landing pages within your site as a sub-directory. For example, you could build a landing page at a URL such as Your-Site.com/Your-Landing-Page.

OptimizePress is a WordPress theme and so you need to install it separately. You can register a new domain or create a subdomain of your existing website.

I think the templates for OptimizePress look better than Premise; however, Premise is easily customized so you can create nice-looking landing pages.

Generally, if I’m creating a landing page on a separate domain, I use OptimizePress or Profits Theme. If I’m building a landing page within my site, I use Premise.

      I hope this helps.

I have found Premise to be an awesome wordpress plugin.

I also have an Optimize Press license and I agree on your pros and cons, however, I believe that the membership capabilities within Premise, are a huge advantage over Optimize Press but OP also has very solid images (and Profits Theme too).

Loved your video, thanks and keep up the good work man!

I’m excited about the Premise 2.0 update. Premise is coming out with some great features. They’ll be a landing page phenom and the fact it’s a plugin is a HUGE advantage over landing page themes because you can build landing pages within your site!!

Glad you liked my video. I’ll have to update it to reflect the 2.0 features. So many amazing themes to cover and too little time!!
