I’m adding to this table all the time.  I apologize not all WordPress theme framewords are not represented yet.  I buy and test each framework rated in this table; this takes time and investment.

About B2Web’s Premium WordPress Theme Reviews & Ratings

Each category (i.e. design, ease-of-use, etc.) receives a score from 1 to 10, ten being the best.  The overall score is an average of all criteria scores.

These ratings are for the frameworks and not individual themes (unless otherwise stated such as Builder which is really a framework).  In my experience, the individual themes sold by a framework operate more or less the same on any particular framework.

There are exceptions where a framework develops a specific-purpose theme that has added functionality.  In that case, I may do a separate report card for that theme.

To a large degree the scores are relative among the frameworks.  After all, you’re comparing frameworks and you want to know what’s the best for your needs.  However, no theme is perfect.  No theme framework received a perfect score because there’s always room for improvement.

Categories explained – what I consider in determining ratings

Design

Theme design is clearly a subjective assessment.  I do my best to look at themes and theme frameworks objectively, but my design preferences shine through.  What I consider are:

  • Attention to detail,
  •  Color-scheme options,
  • Overall look and feel,
  • Variety of designs and uses,
  • Innovation

Ease-of-use

This refers to how easy it is to do some basic configuration and get a site up and running quickly.  It’s the newbie sniff test.  Essentially I ask: can anyone use this theme and get a site launched quickly?

This also refers to how easy it is to upgrade a theme.

Customization

Ease-of-customization refers to how easy it is to do advanced customization of a theme knowing little or no coding.

Specifically I look at:

  • Widget placement areas (or zones) – especially on the home page
  • Page/Post layout options
  • Logo/Header customization
  • Navigation customization
  • Style and design customization
  • Custom sidebar options

Support

The more support options and the degree of support provided, the higher the score.  Included in this assessment are:

  • Types of support options (forum scores high, ticket system, tutorials)
  • Degree of support, especially on the forum.

License

The fewer restrictions, the better.  For example a theme framework that limits the number of concurrent domains for any package will score lower.  Highest grades given to theme frameworks that let you use any theme on as many concurrent domains AND for clients at the same price.

Lower scores are given to theme frameworks that have personal use and developer packages.

Price

There are 3 elements to how I grade price:

  1. The actual price of themes and all-theme accesss:  the lower the better.  However, do not buy the lowest-priced theme.  Buy the theme that best meets your needs.  Paying an extra $40 for the right theme is worth the money in the long run.
  2. Pricing simplicity.  The more packages and more complex the pricing, the lower the score.
  3. Recurring billing for all-theme access:  If you have to pay more money in the future, the score is lower.

How to use my Premium WordPress Theme Reviews & Ratings

You shouldn’t necessarily rely on the average score or total score.  Determine which factors are most important to you and buy theme(s) that deliver highest on those scores.  For example, if ease-of-customization is your number 1 priority, then buy themes that are easy to customize.

Why don’t I have ratings for every Premium WordPress theme framework?

I’m working on it.  I buy every premium WordPress theme framework I rate in this chart.  I also test them.  If you’re not rated, please feel free to contact me and let me know you’re there.  I’m aware of most premium WP theme developers, and will get to you in due course.  If you’re new, let me know and I’ll do my best to review you shortly.  Thank you for your interest and patience.

Yes, I understand it’s unfair not every theme framework is represented and I’m working as hard as I can to create a comprehensive template review website featuring as many themes and templates as possible.

Feedback

I welcome your feedback through my contact form.  I read each and every email and respond if you’re seeking a response.

Disclaimers

I test all frameworks for which I publish in the above ratings table.  Yes, I purchased each framework, investing a sizable amount of my money to do so.

All reviews, and ratings, and grades are my opinion.  I’m not paid to give a particular score.  However, I do receive a commission if you click through a link and purchase.

Please understand that just because I rate a theme and/or framework highly does not mean it’s the right one for you.  My WordPress theme and framework reviews are for guidance only … one person’s opinion.  My ratings are my opinion based on testing dozens of themes and frameworks.  I do my very best to give objective reviews and ratings to provide the most up-to-date information for you.
