A Great WordPress Video Theme

So Many WordPress Video Themes to Choose From

Actually, there are so many WordPress themes to choose from. There are thousands of paid themes and thousands of free themes. If you’re not sure whether to look for a free or paid theme, read this article about the hazards of a free themes.

When looking for a theme, it’s more important to look for the right framework or theme platform than simply choosing on style and design. The reason for this is that it’s easier to tweak and customize the design than it is to improve and tweak the functionality.

What do I mean by functionality?

I’m talking about SEO configuration, navigation options, clean code, home page layout, layout options for inner pages, ease of customization, footer customization, sidebar customization, and whether it’s updated to integrate with the latest version of WordPress.

I know you probably want a fast solution for your video website, but in the long run you’ll be much better off choosing the right theme platform. I know from firsthand experience because when I started building websites, I used free themes. But the struggle with free themes never stopped. I encountered limitation after limitation. Finally, I broke down and purchased a premium theme and never looked back.

What do you need in a video WordPress theme?

You need theme that is configured to display your videos where you want and how you want. Ideally, you want a home page that makes it incredibly easy to present one or more videos.

Other features you need in a video theme are SEO configuration options, flexible navigation, easy-customization, and of course clean code.

My WordPress Video Theme Recommendation:

Without a doubt, I recommend the Genesis Framework (my Genesis review) for building a video-based website. Genesis is a StudioPress offering. Genesis is the Framework on which you install child themes that dictate your website’s style and design. One specific child theme created by StudioPress for use as a video website is the Amped child theme. I use the Genesis Framework for most of my websites, including this site and my offline business website (which displays many videos).

But here’s the kicker: All StudioPress themes easily display videos. Whether you embed YouTube code or host your videos yourself, a StudioPress theme can easily be used as a video theme. This gives you the flexibility to choose a style and design that’s perfect for your video website.

The real reason to go with StudioPress is the Genesis Framework you get to use. Genesis was rolled out in 2010 and updated frequently adding more and more features as well as staying current with WordPress itself. To find out all about Genesis, read my in-depth Genesis Framework review here.

Genesis in a Nutshell:

  • SEO Ready: I’m talking about SEO super-charged. I’m really into doing SEO, especially for my offline business website. I find the SEO configuration options very easy to use and caters to many SEO strategies.
  • Flexible Navigation: You can create all kinds of custom menus and place those menus in many locations.
  • Custom Sidebars: If you want different sidebar content in different parts of your website, Genesis delivers. Without knowing any coding, you can create new sidebars that appear in the widget panel. Then you can customize the content in each sidebar you create. For each post and page you create, you choose which sidebars you wish to display.
  • 6 Layout Options: You can choose 1, 2, or 3 column layouts. Better yet, you can have different layouts for each page.
  • Slide show / Slider Feature: StudioPress is famous for their slide show / slider features on the home page. This is ideal for displaying your best video above-the-fold front and center on your home page.

These are just some of the many powerful tools the Genesis Framework delivers. Check out the many child themes offered by StudioPress and create the perfect video website.
