Jigsy Review – A Very Easy Website Builder… And It’s Free

Viviti
This is my review of the Jigsy website builder (formerly Viviti).

Jigsy is a very easy website builder. Moreover, it’s one of the easiest and most intuitive website builders I’ve used.

The best part is you can create a website for free to see if this is the website builder platform for you. Play around with it and see if any of its hundreds of themes suit your website needs.

My Jigsy Review in a Nutshell

Likes:

  • Extremely easy to use – one of the most intuitive dashboards I’ve ever used. You don’t need to know any coding to build a website in Jigsy.
  • Easy to customize blocks of text and page layouts.
  • Flash component – add Flash files (graphics, video, and/or animation) to your Jigsy site.
  • Add a block of text/blog post to every page or a single page.
  • Great blog integration. In fact Jigsy touts itself as an online CMS website builder. They live up to this because their blogging feature is extremely easy to use and offers a great deal of flexibility.
  • Easy to customize the header and/or logo.
  • Tons of useful components (see below under “Features”).
  • You don’t have to save your page all the time. It seems to auto-save.
  • It’s free for a 5 page website – but ads are displayed (this is common with free website builders).
  • You can insert custom HTML for further customization.
  • Import blog posts from another site if migrating your website. This saves you time on a website migration.
  • Jigsy has an image library (however, it’s pretty small)
  • Custom navigation options – you can create navigation menus and place them anywhere.
  • With a paid version, you get access to over 100,000 images to use in your website. This is a very nice feature. Note that with the free version, your image selection is much more limited.
  • SEO Ready – you can easily add meta-descriptions. However, it’s not so easy to add meta heading tags. You must go into the HTML source code to do this (as far as I could tell).

Dislikes:

  • I’d like more themes to choose from. There are a good selection, but there could always be more. That said, the variety of designs is impressive.
  • The top package offers a maximum of 5 GB of space. I expect the most expensive package to offer unlimited space.
  • I’d love to see a slideshow / slider component for business websites. You can add one via the Javascript/Flash component, but it sure would be nice to have one built into the website builder.
  • You need to go into HTML code to add heading tags (for SEO purposes).

Jigsy Features

Free Website Option (but ads are displayed).

37 components:

  • Blogging component – very easy to integrate a blog. In fact, this is one Jigsy’s best features. Not only is it easy, but it’s very flexibile.

Check out the blog manager:

Viviti Blog Manager

  • Flash component – you can easily add flash files. Another very useful feature.
  • Online scheduler.
  • Several social media components.
  • Analytics reporting.
  • Paypal integration.
  • Built-in form creator (i.e. contact forms).
  • Image upload and gallery creator.
  • Flexible text content creator and layout.
  • Easy-to-use content editor. You don’t need to know any coding except for heading tags (for SEO purposes). Check out the text editor:

Viviti Text Editor

Very clean and easy-to-use workspace.

Many layout options – especially within text blocks.

Pricing:

Free, $10, $20, or $30 per month. A more expensive package gives you more server space. For $20/month you can build 3 websites; for $30/month you can build 5 websites.

My Jigsy Verdict:

If you’re looking for an easy website builder that offers excellent customization options as well as a blog, giving Jigsy a test-drive is worth the 1/2 hour or so it takes to get a sense whether it’s the website builder for you.
